Jesus' cause of death, spurious research & absurd news
An example of freedom of research gone too far. Reuters has published the following "news": "Jesus died of blood clot - Israeli researcher [says]" (here is the link). I gotta quote (the bold font is mine):
"Professor Benjamin Brenner wrote in The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis that Jesus's death, traditionally believed to have occurred 3-6 hours after crucifixion began, was probably caused by a blood clot that reached his lungs."Such pulmonary embolisms, leading to sudden death, can stem from immobilisation, multiple trauma and dehydration, said Brenner, a researcher at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
[...]
"A 1986 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association mentioned the possibility that Jesus suffered a blood clot but concluded that he died of blood loss."
I found no enlightenment is such "news". I find myself outraged as an anthropology student in/from the Third World. I really wonder: who finances this kind of research? Who gives grants and fundings for such investigations? Who cares at all for its results? Then, who agrees to publish their conclusions in peer-reviewed academic journals?
I angrily ask myself this in the light of us kids in Venezuela not being able to receive a penny to do our researchs and thesis; of us kids not being able to receive more than a US$100 grant (if we win the much hostile contest among probably hundreds or thousands of students like us to receive it) for taking our research conclusions or work in progress to a congress and meeting; of us kids not being able to collect any cent not even for the much needed photocopies of the books we cannot afford to buy for any given course we are mandated to take during our undergraduate studies, etc. I don't even have 5-days worth of underwear, nor shirts nor pants to show up at the university.
For all of us living under bloody dictatorships and the most adverse economies, and if I'm allowed some Evangelspeak, I'd remind you the actual cause of death of the Lord: Jesus died for your sins: your spurious research, your dumb media, and your total waste of elsewhere much needed resources, wealth & riches.
