The Pope on Indigenous theology and interculturality

Benny the 16th never ceases to amaze me. Just another bombshell to those still holding the pre-conclave hype-mediatic views about the new pope:

The Theological Commission published documents on the interpretation of dogma, on the past faults of the Church ---very important after the confessions made repeatedly by the Holy Father--- and other documents. At the moment we are publishing a document on the Diaconate and another on revelation and inculturation.

This last argument, the encounter between different cultures, that is, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, is at the moment the main topic for us in our Congregation. After the disappearance of liberation theology in the years following 1989, there developed new currents in theology; for example, in Latin America there is an indigenous theology. This idea is to re-do theology in the light of the pre-Columbian cultures. We also are dealing with the problem of how Christian faith can be present in the great Indian culture with its rich religious and philosophical traditions.

The meetings of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith with Bishops and with theologians, aimed at finding how an intercultural synthesis in the present moment is possible without losing the identity of our faith is exciting for us, and I think it is an important topic even for non- Christians or non-Catholics.

These are the last paragraphs of his "Self-Presentation of His Eminence Card. Joseph Ratzinger as member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences" (Apr 19th 2005?), which is found in the Vatican site both in English & Spanish. I post in English just out of mischief.

A penny or any agreable exchange item for your relativistic thoughts.

No, John. it's absolutely not "different" from his statement. It's actually an integral part of it, and of his role in Vatican II, to which all the recent popes have agreed to promote. It IS quite different from the "conservative" portrayal disseminated by CNN and bought by many uninformed couch potatos. There have no been no bombshells to those who know where Benny is coming from; the blows are taken by those who bought and insist in that Benny was a Nazi (absolutely not!), a "conservative" (not! Orthodox is not the same than from "conservative"), a homophobic (not!), a "fundamentalist" (really not!), etc. He's actually quite amusingly postmo. What worries me and so many in the Third World (Catholics and non-Catholics alike) are his appointments of so many US bishops in such high places in the Vatican.
