Digital Cameras
I am currently in the market for a new digital camera, to be purchased before I leave for Honduras on the 22nd. In my opinion, cameras are one of the hardest things to shop for because there are many brands and models with many options. My budget is under $500 and right now the biggest option under consideration is megapixels (clarity, color, etc.), with size and zoom cabability coming in next. Does anyone have any recommendations for or experience with a good multi-use camera that will hold up in the field?

If you're looking for something compact I highly recommend the Canon Powershot SD500. I've had the camera for three months and have had a wonderful time with it.
It boasts 7.1 megapixels - that is too high for most ultra-compacts but it handles it well. There are more compact cameras but few perform better. Still it fits in the pocket easily. You can probably find it for under $400 (or for $280 brand new on eBay like I did).
If you want to do some research check out www.dcresource.com - I felt every bit overwhelmed by the choices out there before I got my Canon but thanks to them I got precisely what I wanted.
