Hello, my name is Jesse de Leon, the person behind Sarapen. This blog is the newest version of my old blog, also known as Sarapen. The old blog was mostly about my Master's research on how diasporic Filipinos used blogs to construct transnational identities. This one is about whatever I feel like writing about. My usual subjects include anthropology, theory, and analysis of various media, as well as whatever interesting tidbits have caught my eye. Want to know a little bit more about me?

Currently, I'm in Costa Rica working as a "website specialist" for the local branch of Defensas de Niñas y Niños Internacional, an international Non-Governmental Organization focused on children's rights. Yes, that's the website I'm supposed to be working on. So why is this blog so clunky if I'm actually some hotshot web designer? First, I'm not getting paid to work on this blog, so I'm really quite bad at motivating myself to improve it. Second, I'm not actually a tech-y person, my degree was in Social Anthropology. I know a bit more than other people, but I can't claim to be the sort of person who codes because they enjoy it.
