Triumph the Insult Dog Examines an "Imagined Community" and Concludes: Star Wars Fans Will Die Alone

As promised to my classmates, here is the video to Conan O'Brien's most popular guest:

On another Star Wars note, when the final episode came out a few weeks ago, I asked about twenty people at CSAIL to what percent they regarded Star Wars as formative in bringing them and other MITers from childhood towards a career related to technology, to which they all immediately replied: 100%.

Robert Smigel (SNL contributor, lead writer for Conan, and genius behind T.I.C.D.) is definitely one of the most talented writers of our late-night television generation; however, once his words are funneled through the medium (Triumph, Conan, Dana Carvey, etc.), his identity becomes, fairly, lost in translation. I don’t recall hearing much of Larry David until, after, Seinfeld was over. Why don’t we bestow celebrity status to those who create our television content?

Hi Jennifer,

I enjoyed your presentation yesterday. I hadn't realized that Second Life had gone live/public. I always found that type interesting, it seems truer to the early MUDs than others I've seen; reminds me a lot of "Diveristy University," but the attention they give to the avatar look is really impressive. They put alot into allowing a user to create an avatar with incredible detail and flexibility. Also their world is so wide open as to what you can do, that it seems intimidating (to me al least :-)
Thanks,
- Steve
